The Problem:
Equine therapy programs desperately need reliable, well‑trained horses, yet suitable “unicorns” are increasingly hard to find. Despite the number of horses in the world, very few meet the temperament, training, and consistency required for therapeutic work. At the same time, nonprofits struggle with limited budgets, declining donations, and rising costs of horse care.
There are more than 100 PATH‑certified centers in Texas alone, each competing for the same small pool of qualified horses. Since COVID—and, some argue, the pop‑culture influence of shows like Yellowstone—quality horse donations have dropped sharply. These centers are doing their best, but sourcing and evaluating the right horses has become a major barrier to serving their communities.
Our Response:
We decided to step up. As a group of problem‑solvers and industry‑savvy professionals, we created Hoof‑Hub to address this gap directly. We’re building a collaborative system to identify where suitable horses can come from, how to evaluate them for therapeutic use, defining what training they need, and how to transport them safely to the centers that rely on them.
Led by Jay Clements, a retired defense‑industry professional with the time and experience to tackle complex challenges, Hoof‑Hub is committed to making sure equine therapy programs get the horses they need to do their life‑changing work.
